Chamberlain Celebrates Carers Week with Fife Carers and Levenmouth Carers Group

Wendy Chamberlain, MP for North East Fife, marked Carers Week 2025 by attending a conference hosted by Fife Carers and meeting with the Levenmouth Carers Group.
As a long-standing advocate for unpaid carers, Chamberlain used the occasion to highlight the vital role carers play in communities and the need for greater support. During her visit, Chamberlain spoke with carers about their experiences and concerns.
Chamberlain commented:
“Carers are the backbone of our society, supporting loved ones through illness, ageing, and disability. Despite their enormous contribution, an estimated £162 billion a year, they remain undervalued and often overlooked.”
“Here in North East Fife, we are fortunate to have exceptional organisations like Fife Carers Centre, which has provided vital advocacy and support to carers for 30 years.
“It was also great meeting the Levenmouth Carers Group, a formidable group of older women who really brought home to me the daily challenges of caring for loved ones, particularly as pensioners who don’t get pensioners credit, carers allowance, winter fuel allowance.
“As we face proposed changes to benefits and PIP, which could leave 150,000 unpaid carers without essential financial support, pushing many into deeper hardship and uncertainty about their future, it is absolutely vital that we continue advocating for carers.”
